Inspector’s Local Plan report published for WyrePublished Monday, 11 February 2019
Following the submission of the Publication Draft Local Plan and a period of public examination by an independent Planning Inspector, Wyre Council has now received the Inspector's Final Report.
The report sets out the Inspector’s findings in relation to legal compliance, the duty to co-operate and the soundness of the Local Plan, which sets the borough’s planning policies for the period 2011 to 2031. Matters considered by the Inspector in his report include compliance with national planning policy, the strategy for the distribution of development and the need for land to meet development needs including housing and employment.
The council consulted on proposed Main Modifications to the submitted Local Plan in Autumn 2018. The Inspector has considered representations made by members of the public and organisations on the Plan as originally submitted and the proposed Main Modifications, and produced a final schedule of Main Modifications which the council will incorporate into the final version of the Local Plan.
Key Main Modifications required by the Inspector include an increase in the amount of housing to be developed in the borough, changes in the distribution of development to provide a greater focus on more sustainable locations, and a requirement that there should be an early review of the Local Plan to further explore the need for new housing and associated highway issues.
Councillor Michael Vincent, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Economic Development, commented: “I am pleased to receive the report from the Inspector which provides a positive basis for us to now move ahead towards formally adopting the plan as council policy later this month.”
The council will hold an extraordinary meeting on 28 February 2019 to vote on formally adopting the modified Local Plan as council policy, which will have full weight in the making of planning decisions.
The Inspector’s Report and Main Modifications is available to view and download here.
Copies of the Inspector’s report with a schedule of Main Modifications will also be available to view in local libraries and on reception at Wyre’s Civic Centre.
