JUST REMINISCING: an opportunity to volunteer in WyrePublished Friday, 03 August 2018
Wyre Council is offering an opportunity to be involved in an exciting new strand of work, ‘Just Reminiscing’, a dementia project.
Using objects, artefacts, replicas and creativity, volunteers will be part of a small group leading informal drop in sessions across the borough, with other more formalised sessions to be arranged at community based venues in the borough, such as sheltered accommodation, residential settings and luncheon clubs.
The sessions will involve helping to stimulate conversations and encouraging people to share memories and anecdotes. The creative approaches that may be used, could include writing and recital, music or visual art.
This project will be supported by professionals in social care, artists who will use creative approaches too, and advocates who work with people with dementia.
Skills you will need to provide include, stimulating memory in a comfortable, supportive and happy environment, to have a person centred approach that is sensitive and empathic, to encourage creativity, to be non-judgemental and have the will and commitment to learn from others.
Benefits of working on this project include, meeting a host of wonderful people, see a positive change in residents and keeping a learning journal of your own journey on this project.
Flexible opportunities are available from September.
