Wyre Blooms for 2018Published Tuesday, 24 July 2018
Wyre had a very busy week from 16 – 20 July, with North West in Bloom judges arriving from across Lancashire, Cheshire and Merseyside to visit our towns and villages.
Monday 16 July saw Great Eccleston and St. Michaels in the spotlight, with highlights including a new decorated telephone box in St. Michaels and the fabulous gardens at The Bungalows in Great Eccleston.
Tuesday came and Hambleton and Pilling were inspected, both very enjoyable tours, and Wednesday was a very busy day with both gorgeous Thornton and Fleetwood showing off their splendour. Fleetwood, awash with poppies made from thousands of recycled plastic bottles to both impress for In Bloom and for The Remembrance project in November, was stunning.
Thursday and Friday saw visits to Catterall, Preesall and Knott End, Inskip and finally Garstang. All were fabulous tours and the judges were suitably impressed and thoroughly enjoyed their time in Wyre. Garstang had added interest as the new Scarecrow Festival had just been officially launched, with hundreds of colourful characters adorning the streets.
And throughout the week, the judges also visited 25 neighbourhoods as they toured, which are marked independently from the areas in which they are situated.
So now we will have to wait until the beginning of November to find out just what each area and neighbourhood that took part has achieved, with a visit to Southport for the results.
Good luck everyone who helped with this year’s magnificent efforts – Wyre looks fantastic!
