Fire safety advice

Fire safety advice Published Saturday, 30 June 2018

Please act responsibly if enjoying Wyre’s wonderful parks, open spaces and countryside this summer. Preventing damaging wildfires is a matter of being vigilant and following a few simple steps.

The recent dry spell has dried out grasses and vegetation throughout the North West region as highlighted by the moorland fires at Winter Hill near Bolton and Saddleworth Moor in Greater Manchester.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has issued some simple advice to help prevent further fires.

Make sure cigarettes and matches are fully extinguished before discarding them in an appropriate manner. Never throw cigarette ends out of car windows, they can ruin whole fields of crop.

Please do not have BBQs on grassland areas.

When using disposable BBQ’s ensure they are used safely and only in places where they allowed. Always make sure that they are properly extinguished.

Report any smoke or fire - call 999 immediately. Don’t assume someone else has reported a fire. Don’t assume a fire is under control. Report any suspicious or inappropriate behaviour.
