Wyre Council appoints Lead Member for Older People

councillor Lynn Walmsley

Wyre Council has appointed Councillor Lynn Walmsley to the role of Lead Member for Older People following the meeting of Full Council on Thursday 16 September 2021.

In the role, Cllr Walmsley will work with the community to help enable them to access services and support, as well as act as the council’s representative for older people and as a voice for the community.

Speaking on her appointment, Councillor Lynn Walmsley, commented, “I look forward to taking on the role as Lead Member for Older People for Wyre Council. Wyre has a large proportion of older people in the borough and it is predicted that by 2043, the population aged 65 and over in Wyre will be the largest of any Lancashire authority.

“Wyre has a great number of services dedicated to help older people, but we often find that those that are in most need of these services are socially isolated and don’t know where to look for help. I hope to help enable anyone needing support to access it easily and safely.

“Together, I hope to understand the challenges facing the older community and work with partners to help improve the lives of older residents.”

Councillor Lynn Walmsley is keen to hear about support groups and services that are available in Wyre. Get in touch by emailing lynn.walmsley@wyre.gov.uk.

Councillor David Henderson, Leader of Wyre Council, commented, “The role of Lead Member for Older People is to provide support and advice to the Cabinet on their specialist area of knowledge, interest and activity. Cllr Walmsley will liaise with the community to enable them to access support where needed.

“I look forward to working with Cllr Walmsley to further improve the lives of older people across Wyre.”
