Yellow warning for heavy rain and thunderstormsPublished Friday, 01 June 2018
Be aware that the Met Office has issued a Yellow warning for thunderstorms to affect North West regions of the UK today
The warning covers much of the north west and it is still uncertain as to whether Wyre will be affected.
The warning is effective from 9am to 10pm with the worst period expected to be from 3pm to 9pm.
The Environment Agency has confirmed that currently river levels are low and they have not yet issued any warnings for this region. As a precaution teams from the Environment Agency are checking and clearing trash screens on watercourses in case the predicted rainfall arrives.
A further update is expected from the Met Office late morning and this may give us to clarity as to whether we will see heavy rainfall today.
In the meantime, officers from Wyre will be monitoring the situation and we will issue further updates as we get them. The council will not be issuing sandbags at this time, but may do so in response to localised flooding.
