The new digital help centre at Fleetwood Market was officially opened today and is already helping local people to get online.
Over 100 people have already been helped to access vital benefits and other services via the internet in just two weeks since the new Digital Help Centre opened at Fleetwood Market, guests heard at the official launch this morning.
The centre, run in partnership by Citizens Advice and Wyre Council, will help people to learn new IT skills and even work their way towards qualifications. There are a number of computers that are available to use and assistance is offered from both Citizens Advice and Wyre Council staff. Appointments can be booked for those who prefer or the service can be accessed on a drop in basis.
The digital hub was officially opened by Councillor Peter Murphy, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Economic Development who told guests about the organisations’ vision for the centre: “This initiative was set up to help local people gain access to essential everyday functions such as benefit applications, paying council tax and utility bills via the internet, and setting up an email address. More and more services are only accessible online so the ability to be online is becoming a necessity in today’s world.”
Diane Gradwell, Chief Executive of Citizens Advice Lancashire West, explained: “Many people still don’t have access to the internet, or are not confident in getting online. This service is available to everyone and will really help local people who need a bit of help to access support. Having Wyre Council working alongside the Citizens Advice team means that visitors have access to a whole range of advice and guidance.”
The centre is located inside Fleetwood Market close to the entrance from Adelaide Street and is open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday every week from 9.30am – 4pm.
