Storm Brian hits the North West

Cleveleys prom covered in water due to strong winds Published Friday, 20 October 2017

We are taking precautions to deal with Storm Brian this weekend (21/22 October).

Storm Brian, the next storm to hit the UK, is forecast to arrive in the north west over the weekend. Strong westerly winds are expected to hit the North West coast with gusts of 50 – 70 mph expected from Friday evening into Saturday and continuing on into Sunday.

The strong winds are expected to coincide with this weekend’s spring tides and once again storm gates will be closed along the promenade at Cleveleys throughout the weekend.

For access to the promenade the gates at Café Cove and Victoria Road West will be left open and will be closed only if conditions deteriorate. The Public are advised to take care on the promenade, particularly at high tide.

High tides:

Saturday 12.33am - 9.5m

Saturday  12.53pm – 9.5m

Sunday 1.07am – 9.4m

Sunday 1.27pm – 9.4m

We will maintain officers on standby over the weekend to deal with any flooding threats. Our emergency number is (01253) 895116.
