Kirk Brandon’s ‘aKoustic 2017’ tour comes to Thornton Little TheatrePublished Thursday, 24 August 2017
Kirk Brandon, the voice of Spear of Destiny, Theatre of Hate and Dead Men Walking is embarking on an 11 date UK tour, with a gig announced at Thornton Little Theatre on Saturday 2 September.
With over 15 studio albums and countless single releases, his career now spans well over 30 years. He has enjoyed worldwide success with all three of the aforementioned bands and was the main man in punk rock band The Pack.
Described by the BBC’s Jeremy Vine as one of ‘our greatest musical geniuses’ Kirk has released five solo acoustic studio albums over the last nine years entitled the ‘Dutch Masters’ series that have pulled tracks from all eras of his career. These albums have also featured many of the people Kirk has worked with over the years including Derek Forbes (Simple Minds), Slim Jim Phantom (Stray Cats), Mike Peters (The Alarm) & Clint Boon (Inspiral Carpets).
The latest of these solo acoustic albums entitled ‘Dutch Masters Volume Five’ has become, in its first year of release, the best seller in the series, featuring two outstanding Theatre of Hate interpretations, a James Bond theme and a Country and Western cover of a Ry Cooder tune!
As in 2016, 2017 will see Kirk joined by master cello player Sam Sansbury both in the studio and at live shows. In August and September a full UK Tour takes place with a very special trip to the Ukraine thrown in for good measure! Expect some very special performances that will feature all the hits including ‘Never Take Me Alive’, ‘Do You Believe in the Westworld’, ‘Worldservice’, ‘So In Love With You’, ‘Young Men’ and ‘Original Sin’.
Kirk will be joined on the night by support act Harley Jay. Harley Jay is a nineteen year old acoustic musician, and singer of well known indie, pop and folk songs, all delivered with a passionately unique and individual twist. Her musical influences include Kate Bush, KT Tunstall, Gabrielle Aplin, Orla Garland, Birdy and Bon Iver, all of whom can be heard in her vocal range, rich tones and brightness.
Talking about the tour Kirk comments, “Both Sam and I are really looking forward to the upcoming aKoustiK 2017 UK Tour. We have put together a show that covers songs from all of my career. Many songs will be known to all, plus just for fun and to prove I am still alive and not a hologram there are two new songs in the set written especially for Sam’s amazing cello playing. We look forward to seeing lots of you out on our little road trip.”
Doors open on Saturday 2 September at 7pm, Harley Jay will be performing at 7.30pm followed by Kirk Brandon at 8.30pm. Tickets are £10 to book call 01253 887693 or book online at www.wyretheatres.co.uk
