The hunt is on for a new Knott End ferry operatorPublished Friday, 20 January 2017
On 31 March 2017 the current subsidy received from Lancashire County Council for the Knott End Ferry will cease.
Wyre Council feel this essential service needs to continue to serve residents and visitors to Wyre and have been exploring ways to retain it.
After talks with Lancashire County Council they have agreed to hand over the boat, Wyre Rose to a new operator. Therefore with a continuing subsidy from Wyre Council, we are seeking a new partner to run the ferry service and are inviting bids.
We are seeking a new operator for the Fleetwood to Knott End-on-sea ferry service, and are willing to show our commitment to this service by continuing to provide a subsidy for the first four years of the eight year contract. After which we expect the service to be self-sustaining.
All tenders must be submitted by Monday 23 January 2017 at 12 noon in order for the new contract to begin on 1 April 2017, in order to provide a continuing service to the public. All tender submissions must be completed via the council’s e-portal system The Chest.
