Trailblazers - Seashell Creator Chris Brammall
The Seashell is a four-metre high conch shell formed from marine grade stainless steel by Chris Brammall Limited of Ulverston, Cumbria.
It weighs 16.5 tonnes and was formed into shape and then blasted and waxed to give it a natural finish. It was made in Ulverston and the project took eight months to complete.
The Seashell is positioned on the beach at Cleveleys 30 metres from the shore and is covered by the sea at high tide. It is of such a size that people can stand inside it.
Director Chris Brammall, said: "I think the finished shell looks fantastic and the best bit for me is that people will interact with it and enjoy using it
"The Seashell has been a great and challenging project and we are all really excited to see it in place.
"We think it is a fairly unique project and nothing quite like this has been tried before, in terms of the way it was formed, the materials used and the positioning on the sea shore."
Chris Brammall Limited also installed the Paddle. They specialise in the creation of high quality sculptural and architectural metalwork.Other commissions they have worked on include the Churchill War rooms in London and the Lake District Visitor Centre.
