Substance misuse affects the well-being of individuals, families and neighbourhoods; it damages the health of individuals and undermines family life as well as having huge social and economic costs to Wyre. Reducing drug and alcohol related crime is vital to making people safer and improving lives.
This area of work looks at reducing the level of alcohol induced violent crime across Wyre. In order to achieve agreed reduction targets we work with Lancashire Police to provide high visibility town centre patrols to offer early intervention in identifying potential trouble makers and trouble spots.
Drug interventions programme (DIP)
The DIP is a key part of the government's strategy for tackling drugs and reducing crime.
The programme aims to get adult drug-misusing offenders out of crime and into treatment and other support.
The programme aims to break the cycle of drugs- crime- prison by providing a range of interventions to engage drug using offenders at all stages of the criminal justice system from arrest to court. Interventions are also available to assist with the transition from prison back to the community.
Wyre DIP is a partnership programme involving the following partners:
- North Lancashire PCT
- Wyre Council
- Lancashire County Council
- Lancashire Probation Service
- Wyre Community Safety Partnership
- HM Prison Service
- Wyre Council Strategic Housing
- Fleetwood, Lancaster and Blackpool Court Services
