Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)
This sets out how the council will engage with local people and organisations in the planning of the environment, on both planning policy matters and individual planning applications. It provides guidelines for how the community will be consulted.
The SCI is a public statement of how and when the community will be involved and the standards we aim to achieve in this process. It explains the council's procedures for consulting each sector of the community and encourages people to become involved in plan making and development proposals at an early stage. This helps to identify issues and concerns and allows discussion of options before proposals become too far advanced.
The original SCI adopted in May 2007 needed to be revised to reflect changes to national planning guidance and the experience gained from previous consultation exercises.
The Revised SCI was subject to a 6-week public consultation exercise, 15 representations were received and the SCI has been slightly revised further in the light of those representations. The SCI no longer requires examination by an independent inspector, due to revisions to the Planning Act and was adopted by the Council on 21st January 2010.
